Orientation Week

queue
The queue at 11th College MU when my niece went to register for Orientation Week. Sure brings back some very vague memories of a similar time 30 years ago. However they now have twice the number of Residential Colleges, and the rooms seem to be smaller than what they used to be — and shared among 4 people instead of 2! :P

Some things never change

There have been a lot of changes in the lives of my nieces and nephews in the last year. My eldest nephew got married end of last year and my eldest niece graduated from medical school and has just finished housemanship. Another niece left for Australia to further her studies, and another nephew will be leaving soon for UK. My sis just came down to KL today with her youngest (same age as my son) who starts University next week.

In the midst of all that, things don’t seem to change much with my son. He still loves the Wiggles, still plays the same PC games and is as addicted to his hand cream as ever. He normally has that applied twice a day, after his bath and at bedtime. However he fell asleep so fast last night that I missed the application. You wouldn’t believe it but early this morning he woke me up before 6 am asking for his HAND cream!

Limitations

It’s been awhile since I last blogged and I confess I have been rather preoccupied lately with PackRat. It’s another addictive Facebook application so please don’t add it unless you have time to spare!

Am glad to say my arm has improved over the last one and half months. I am no longer on any medication nor need a sling, although I still apply Voltaren Gel regularly to ease the occasional ache. However I do have limitation of movement in my right shoulder on flexion, abduction and internal rotation. I have problems reaching out for things, difficulty with undressing and still cannot sleep on my right side due to pain. I guess it will take some time for the stiffness and ache to disappear totally, but it’s much better than before.

Introducing Sunshine

Sunshine
As I mentioned yesterday, I have been busy the past week with yet another fluff contest. Unlike the Habitat (fluff)Gift Contest and the Minis (fluff)Gift Contest, the Spring Re-Decorating Gift Contest had an added catch — you had to have your gift accepted to earn your points. And to make things more difficult, you could only give out 8 a day and 30 in all to try and earn the maximum 30 points, and each person could only accept one basket.

A big thank you goes out to all my friends for taking the trouble to login to their fluffs to accept the baskets I sent out. Despite a lot of eye-rolling on his part, hubby also helped to sms some of you to accept the baskets. Trust me, he was embarrassed for the both of us, but it was worth it as I managed to get 30 points and win all the prizes!

Class Reunion

Sorry for the tardiness in blogging about the class reunion we had last weekend, but I have been rather preoccupied with yet another fluff contest. I was also awaiting more photos to post, but since they don’t appear to be forthcoming, I will put up more photos when and if they come in.

23

We had our 25th Anniversary Class Reunion last Saturday in the Putrajaya Shangri-la. It’s the first time we’ve been there but thanks to GPS, getting there was no problem and took us only about half an hour. The Resort is very nice and situated on a hillock overlooking Putrajaya. Turnout was good — 46 people in all, which is about half the class. Together with spouses and invited lecturers there were about 70 people in all. We had friends coming in from all corners of Malaysia and even all the way from UK, Australia and Hong Kong. Some of us haven’t seen each other since graduation so we had a blast catching up — you can just imagine the noise we made!

All the photos can be seen here.

We started with a trip down memory lane with a powerpoint presentation of photos old and new followed by a nice buffet dinner and re-introductions, with some reminiscences from our lecturers as well. We were all reminded time and again of how our class had the distinction of being the “rebellious class” where only 12 of us stayed back to do our housemanship in University Hospital. Highlight of the evening must have been the Most/Least Contest eg. Who had changed the most and Who had changed the Least. We also had an Anatomy Quiz of a different sort, whereby old photos were put up showing off just different bodily parts eg. nose, mouth, chest(!) and legs and we had to try and guess who it came from! We finally ended past midnight, and everyone agreed that we should try to do it again very soon. Perhaps next year?

We both survived

The son survived a 6 day course of Unasyn for UTI. Had to really force persuade him to take the meds after Day 2!
I survived the side effects of the antibiotics — don’t ask! *sigh*

Saving E-cards

With the increased popularity of e-cards, snail mail birthday cards seem to have become a thing of the past. I rarely send out snail mail birthday cards any more as e-cards are definitely more convenient. However one of the disadvantages of e-cards is that you cannot keep them as mementos of the day like you would an actual card.

So I hit on the idea of saving the cards in jpg format, and what better way to display them than in a blogpost! If the e-card is animated, just do a print screen of the various “pages”, and save in your image viewer. Here are the cards I received this year.

From my sister:
doreen

From my niece (aren’t the cars cute?):
hapybdayauntychr

From a friend:
koreen

And lastly, my cousin sent me a lovely Dayspring card. The card reads:
The Blessings of Spring
Lovely flowers show us God’s faithfulness…
If God cares so wonderfully for flowers.. won’t He more surely care for you?
~Matthew 6:30

Singing birds tell us of His tender care…
Look at the birds…Your heavenly Father feeds them.
And you are far more valuable to Him than they are.
~Matthew 6:26

Soft rains remind us of His refreshing grace…
I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing.
~Ezekiel 34:26

Sunny days reflect the light He brings…
I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will have the light of life.
~John 8:12

Happy Mother’s Day

A mother’s building blocks
are caring eyes,
a listening ear,
an understanding smile,
and hugs that warm the inside.
