The MMR Blog Rounds I

posted in - Blog rounds, - Palmdoc |

We are starting a new category – MMR Blog Rounds. This takes after the famous Medlogs.com’s Grand rounds. We’ll do a weekly round of the Malaysian Medical Blog scene and update you on what we have found interesting for the week. I think we’ll be concentrating mainly on the Malaysian Doctor Blogs. Students, you may be included if you have an oustanding blog post ;)
This weeks rounds sees doctors once again blogging mainly about non-medical issues. Yes we don’t only blog about medical matters but blogging being the therapy that we seek (venting, ranting, you get the drift) leads us to blog about other matters.

Bernard (aka “Hands”) decides to support the Bloggers against banning books cause. While this may be a noble cause I think in the 21st century any attempts to ban books will fail. We can easily bypass bans with modern technology. Yah, e-books. Just download and read lah. .
Doc Chan has reached his 1000th milestone post. Congratulations!
Coolclare has her first turkey! But I think it just tastes like chicken, big deal. Move on. Move on.
Greener Pasture stumbles on an interesting fact that Cats do get hyperthyroidism. Hmmm. Yeah, sometimes we do get distracted when researching for articles. LOL.
Poor Jimbo got a bit unstuck in a public forum, getting in a bit of a tangle bila audience-nya sebut “Main Belakang”. Well thankfully it was only a bit of trouble. We know of some ex-politicians who got into a whole lot of more serious trouble for allegedly doing that.
Palmdoc experienced yet another PDA Emergency. Yeah, not his PDA. Yet Another Colleague’s PDA. Sigh.
Heart of the Matter talks about the right use of 64 slice MSCT – possibly a much abused diagnostic utility in Malaysia today where people use it for routine “screening”. According to HOTM, there are “7 64-slice MSCT machines in the Klang valley (6 million people) and at least 15 in the country (26 million souls)”.
Doc Del compares Science with Art. Never met a “doctor who can recite a poem”? Hmmm. I don’t know about reciting poems but there are some pretty good medical poets out there, some of whom write often to the Berita MMA e.g. Dr. Ng KS. Then there are those of us who are musically inclined. David Lim blogs about his Dream Guitar.
On a touching note, E.Coli recounts meeting a Lovely elderly couple. Yes there still is poverty in Malaysia. Clearly the NEP has failed these people. IMO, it really is a National Enrichment Policy for only a privileged few. Nuff said.
For those of you who are wondering what doing locum is like, Nocturnale tells you it can be quite boring, on Deepavali Day
A few bloggers need cheering up. Head over to Elio who’s feeling a little lonely and Seremban Boy who’s feeling a little empty and cheer them up!

That’s it for the grand rounds this week. Sorry if we missed out anyone. But these are just the noteworthy posts we spotted. Keep on blogging. Medical blogging is not just a passing fad. I think it is becoming an imoprtant way to “network” and take the pulse of the medical community. The Spotlight is now on medical blogs, people. The future is the blog. Go blog and go read the blogs.
