Double PDA Phone Special for Malaysian doctors and medical students
posted in - Palmdoc, - Technology |Once again, the MMR managed to wangle a PDA phone deal for Malaysian medical people. The items you see will be at a special price and bundled with some freebies.
On the right, is the Palm Centro which is a PalmOS powered smartphone (Garnet OS 5) with Bluetooth, Quad band (850/900-1800/1900) GSM/GPRS/EDGE Class 10, 320×320-pixel Transflective colour screen (really brilliant and sharp), 64MB available user storage, microSD expansion slot, 1.3 megapixels camera with 2 x digital zoom and video capture, removable 1150mAh lithium-ion battery giving up to 4 hours talk time, up to 300 hours standby time
This Centro comes in White or Black and is compact, light and the physical qwerty keyboard is surprisingly quite easy to type as a “thumb board”. As it is PalmOS powered, you get to run thousands of Palm software including many medical ones.
On the left is the latest Treo from Palm and this is the Treo Pro which is powered by Windows Mobile 6.1. The specs of this phone are impressive and not only does it have 3G, HSDPA (high speed wireless broadband) it also has built-in Wifi and GPS. The screen is 320×320 and the thing about this Winmo PDA phone is that Palm has put in numerous “tweaks” to make it very efficient and “one-handed” friendly. I must say it changed my perception of a Winmo pda being slow and wieldy. The SMS is threaded like the PalmOS Centro and Treo 680. There are hard buttons which allow you to easily turn off the ringer (useful for meetings), turn on/off the Wifi, control the volume and camera. Battery life is decent and indeed the whole package is very slim, sleek and stylish. It is slimmer than the Centro and the screen is flush with the body.
I have had a chance to play with the Treo Pro for 2 weeks now and have posted some reviews. There are also plenty of medical Winmo software nowadays and even if you can’t find a Palm equivalent, you can run them using a software called Styletap which is a PalmOS emulator.
One of the conditions of this offer is I cannot mention the price publicly. However if you are interested, just email me and I’ll let you know the special price and the dealer’s contact. Please put “PDA Offer” in the subject line.
Disclaimer: The MMR does not get any commission from this offer which is solely between you and the dealer. We are only the messenger!

Hi Palmdoc,
Kudos to MMR for bringing another good offer for us. I`ve no experience in using Palm Treo Pro. There is another winmo with same form factor and even same screen reso ; Samsung i780. What do u think on i780 in comparison to Treo Pro?
November 6th, 2008 at 10:28 am
The Samsung i780 is inferior in usability and build quality. The “joystick” is really hopeless compared with the Palm’s DPad.On top of that the Palm has builtin custom features to make it more Palm like and easy one-handed action.
Garmin XT and maps work well on the Treo Pro but I haven’t tried Google maps yet.
If you like you can read thru my experience posted here in Mypdacafe.

If there’s a trade-in offer for my not-so-old Palm Treo I might consider…otherwise I’ll have to pass *sob sob*

You could sell off your old Treo to your MOs/Hos. But seriously the only thing you’ll gain from the Centro is the smaller size (cute factor) less lag and better battery life.

The dealer got all the emails I forwarded to him. The Treo Pro is now out on Palm Malaysia‘s website. The RRP for the Treo Pro is RM2199 and the Palm Centro is RM 1399. The current deal is a price below the RRPs.
I think the deal for the Palm Centro is great for medical students, HOs and MOs. The Treo Pro is for those who want more hardware features – Wifi, GPS but this comes with a price of course.
